WiFi Calling: What It Is and How to Activate It?
What is WiFi Calling?
WiFi Calling allows you to make and receive calls, send SMS, and MMS over a WiFi connection. This is especially useful when your mobile network coverage is insufficient. To use WiFi Calling, ensure you have a compatible device connected to a supported WiFi network.
Here's how to enable WiFi Calling:
Activate VoLTE
Some newer devices may have VoLTE permanently enabled, and you can skip this step if the options are unavailable on your device.
For Apple devices (iOS 14 and older):
1. Tap the Settings icon on the Home screen.
2. Select the Mobile menu item.
3. Choose Mobile Data Options.
4. Tap Enable 4G.
5. Select the Voice & Data option to enable VoLTE.
For Samsung devices (Android 11 and older):
1. Open the Apps icon.
2. Locate the Settings Icon.
3. Select Connections.
4. Click Mobile Networks.
5. Choose VoLTE to enable on the device.
Activate WiFi Calling
If you only activate WiFi Calling without enabling VoLTE, your call setup time may be delayed by around a second. You also won't be able to switch between the WiFi and mobile networks during a call.
For Apple devices:
1. Tap the Settings icon on the Home screen.
2. Select the Mobile menu item.
3. Tap WiFi Calling.
4. Switch the WiFi Calling on This iPhone slider to On.
5. You'll see a warning about location data. Tap Enable to turn on WiFi Calling.
For Samsung devices:
1. Open the Apps icon.
2. Locate the Settings Icon.
3. Select Connections.
4. Click WiFi Calling.
5. Choose ON to enable WiFi Calling.
