Understanding the NBN Co Subsequent Installation Charge
These connection types use a copper telephone line to connect your address to the NBN. Where a premises does not have any existing available copper cabling, a $297 Line Connection Fee plus labour and materials may be levied by the NBN Co to install a new line. These charges are directly passed on to customers by myhomefone without any margin or markup.
Even where copper cabling is present, this charge can still apply if this cabling is already in use or incomplete; for example, installing a 'jumper cable' may be required to complete the connection. This fee can also apply if you're establishing an additional service alongside an existing one at the same location.
What happens if my premises already has a copper line? How do I avoid this charge?
- If you have an existing telephone line at your address, the NBN Co should be able to use it to connect your premises to the NBN; however, in some cases, we may require additional information to connect it, such as the number.
- If you already have an active NBN service at the location, please refer to our article 'How can I switch my existing NBN to myhomefone?' to avoid the possibility of a Subsequent Installation being performed instead.
- If you have recently moved into the premises and the previous occupant has not yet cancelled their service (or the cancellation has not yet completed), your order may be deemed "Connect Outstanding" and placed on hold. In this event, if you provide Proof of Occupancy, we can request the existing line be used; NBN Co may still, however, determine that a new line is required in some cases.
