How can I switch my existing NBN to myhomefone?

Switching your existing NBN connection to myhomefone: What You Need to Know

If you already have an NBN (National Broadband Network) service, the good news is the transfer process to myhomefone is straightforward. Here are some helpful tips to consider before you get started.
FYI: churn/churning is the technical term for switching NBN internet service providers.

Do you still require a fixed NBN connection?

Did you know that we also offer Home Phone and Broadband services that work without an NBN fixed-line connection? Speak to our sales team to discover our full range of options.

What about my Home Phone service?

If you have an active landline service, cancelling or switching your NBN service may cause your home phone to be terminated. Unlike most other providers, our Home Phone services work without the need for an NBN connection. If you wish to retain a Home Phone service, contact our sales team before initiating any NBN service transfer. Any home phone changes must be completed first to ensure your existing number isn't lost.

Don't Cancel, Transfer!

Don't cancel with your current provider - our team will handle the switch for you.  It's important not to cancel your current service before the transfer, as it could lead to up to a week without internet. That's something we want to avoid!

It's a good idea to contact your old provider after the transfer to ensure they cancelled your existing service with them, and there will be no further charges.

How Long Does It Take?

Switching your existing NBN service to myhomefone usually takes up to 24-48 hours during business days. You can keep using your internet from your current provider as usual until you get a Transfer Completion Notice from us. Once you receive it, just plug in your new myhomefone supplied modem/router and follow the instructions. If you prefer to supply your own modem/router, refer below.

Do I Need a New Modem/Router?

You might be able to reuse your existing modem/router, but it's important for you to know that you are responsible for its configuration, and we can’t provide in-depth technical support for it. Click here to access setup guides for some of the most common BYO devices that work with our NBN services.

Most store-bought modems/routers should work fine; however, hardware supplied by other internet service providers may have special firmware that might exhibit unexpected behaviour or communicate back to their central server for periodic setting updates which can potentially wipe your myhomefone connection settings.
If you're not tech savvy, be mindful that the hassle and cost to obtain technical support for a BYO device may outweigh that for a new (pre-configured) myhomefone supplied device.

What if my current provider has a notice period or charges in advance?

Some providers require a cancellation notice period (i.e. 30 days) and may also charge non-refundable access fees in advance. We recommend initiating your transfer request with myhomefone at least a week before the end of this period.

Do I Need to Be Home?

The switch happens remotely, so there are no on-site visits or technicians.
