How does it work on Optus?

Before You Travel: Contact us before you depart to discuss available options and confirm whether international roaming is supported on your plan. Please note that roaming is disabled by default. If you are already abroad, we may be unable to enable roaming depending on your location.
If roaming is active on your service, a roaming pass will automatically start when you use your service overseas in a Zone 1 destination (subject to change). Standard roaming rates apply in all other destinations.
Types of usage that will trigger roaming charges:
- Using data
- Making or receiving a standard call
- Sending a standard SMS
- Sending and receiving an MMS (may incur additional charges)
- Premium SMS and calls (may also incur further charges)
- Voicemail retrievals and voicemail diversions set to busy, no reply or unreachable
Note:
- MMS charges are excluded and charged as per your plan.
- The Roaming Pass charge only applies when you use data (including sending & receiving MMS), make or receive a call or send a text. You don't get charged for days you don't use your phone. We recommend enabling airplane mode on your device to prevent unintended usage.
