What to Do If Your Mobile Number Is Ported/Transferred Without Your Permission
Unauthorized mobile number porting occurs when your personal information is used to transfer your mobile number from one provider to another without your consent.
If you suspect that your number has been ported from MyHomeFone without your authorisation, contact our technical support team by telephone immediately and consider the following actions:
- Inform your bank about the unauthorized porting as scammers may have access to your mobile, enabling them to attempt accessing your bank account with a verification code sent to your phone.
- Change passwords for accounts accessible via your mobile number, including social media profiles, email accounts, and banking details.
- Report any suspicious activity to Scamwatch, IDCare, and/or ReportCyber.
- Report the scam or suspicious activity to the Australian Federal Police or the relevant State or Territory Police.
Guidelines for Safeguarding Your Identity and Preventing Unauthorized Number Transfers:
- Request your bank to establish a confidential PIN or password exclusively known to you for identification purposes.
- Exercise caution when revealing your mobile number online.
- Modify settings on social media accounts to ensure the privacy of your mobile number.
- Confirm that your birthdate is not publicly visible on social media.
- Develop strong and unique passwords for your social media and online accounts, considering the use of password manager software if necessary.
- Implement two-step verification for online account logins, which involves a verification code sent through SMS or email.
- Regularly purge emails containing sensitive information from your inbox to mitigate risks in case your email account is compromised.
